Good Morning All,
When I made a post about hoping this new year would get better I really meant that with the purest of intentions. Not just for myself, but mainly for my momma. I was doing research on dementia because even though my momma hasn’t been diagnosed with it outright, I’m almost positive that’s exactly what it is. I discovered there are actually 5 different types of dementia. That was shocking to me when I read that. I thought dementia was only dementia, like Alzheimer’s Disease. I’m glad I like reading or else I’d have probably scrolled right past it. The love I have for my momma is so great I’d die for her. Hell, if I could I’d trade places with her in a heartbeat. I’d rather suffer with it just so she wouldn’t have to.
One of the types of dementia I read about is called ‘Dementia with Lewy bodies’. Below is a just some of the information I read about that is happening with my momma right now,
Dementia w/Lewy bodies has many of the symptoms of Alzhiemers disease, and people w/the condition typically also experience:
- periods of being alert or drowsy , or fluctuating levels of confusion
- visual hallucinations (seeing things that are not there)
- becoming slower in their physical movements
- repeated falls and fainting
- sleep disturbances
Dementia w/Lewy bodies (DLB), also known as Lewy body dementia, is one of the most common types of dementia.
Dementia is the name for problems w/mental abilities caused by gradual changes & damage in the brain. It’s rare in people under 65. It tends to develop slowly & get gradually worse over several years.
Symptoms of Dementia
People w/dementia w/Lewy bodies may have:
- Hallucinations – seeing, hearing or small things that are not there
- problems with understanding, thinking, memory & judgement – this is similar to Alzheimer’s disease, although memory may be less affected in people w/dementia w/Lewy bodies
- Confusion or sleepiness – this can change over minutes or hours
- slow movements, stiff limbs & tremors (uncontrollable shaking)
- disturbed sleep, often w/violent movements & shouting out
- fainting spells, unsteadiness & falls
These problems can make daily activities increasingly difficult & someone with the condition may eventually be unable to look after themselves.
Then the article goes on to tell you what caused the dementia, which is damage to the brain thought to be caused by proteins affecting the brains normal functionality by interfering w/signals sent between brain cells.
I’ll admit I have a lot more reading and research to do on it. I have told her everything I’ve learned so far, just about this particular dementia, and she sounded curious but positive at the same time. Like it piqued her interest only because she knows what she’s going through, and nobody can tell her how to feel about it because she’s the one experiencing it (I hope that made sense).
Well, you guys. I’m gonna stop here and make a call to check on my momma, my daughter and my grandson. My momma because of all this shit she’s trying to cope with. My daughter and grandson because she’s got 2 cysts on her ovaries and Lukah (my grandson) has some kind of viral thing where he’s got blisters in his mouth. But it turned out not to be hands, foot, and mouth disease. Thank God. That’s such a painful thing for babies and toddlers to have to go through. Please keep us in your prayers. Much love.
